Hello there! Welcome to the very early playtest build of my new project, Oh Shear!

This is a short, cozy incremental game all about shearing adorable little sheep. Your ultimate goal? To click, upgrade, and shear your way to the Rainbow Sheep! 🌈

A Quick Heads-Up Before You Play

Since this is an early peek behind the curtain, please keep a few things in mind:

  • Active Development: The game is currently in active development and is a massive Work in Progress (WIP). Everything you see is subject to change!
  • Placeholder Assets: All the art and sounds you'll experience right now are just temporary placeholders.
  • No Saves (Yet!): There is currently no save system in this build, so your progress will reset if you close or refresh the game.
  • Anonymous Data: To help us balance the mechanics and improve the overall experience, we are collecting anonymous gameplay statistics. By playing the game, you kindly consent to this data collection.

Not sure about the ending and what its trying to say..... But I think the rainbow sheep ate everyone else....

Hey just one observation: you can buy the size/speed/damage upgrades to fast in my opinion. Once you have the red sheeps you basically can let the mouse in the middle of the screen.... I think you need some balancing there or maybe some kind of incrementatl/refresh process.

This is super cute! Good pacing, especially for a WIP. I think I would either:

* have the autoshear be truly auto (no longer requiring positioning) and lean into it being an idle game

OR

* add more mechanics around shearing to keep it more engaging in the end game, eg: perhaps some kind of herding mechanic, or special food or something.

You could also consider doing more with color if that's something that interests you - like maybe you need a certain number of red and yellow sheep to unlock orange, yellow and blue to unlock green.

cool  game bro

From what I played, it was an enjoyable idle game, but I do have to admit that the sound of the sheep being sheared did get a bit tedious. Maybe adding an upbeat little tune would be a good update. Also, if you've maxed out an upgrade, it would be nice if you could hide that so the upgrade list eliminates unnecessary scrolling.

fun little game! i shore the rainbow sheep in ~1:30.

some thoughts:

  • i turned off the audio soon after buying the autoshear (which is at the 5-10 minute mark?). while the variety of snips was nice touch, it got a bit boring to keep hearing. potential for soundtrack, interspersed sheep bleats, some more audio variety.

  • the balance was pretty good. each new sheep progressed at a similar rate, so it didn’t feel too daunting to keep upgrading. no huge wall to chip away up (except the last, but that wasn’t too bad).

  • upgrade walk speed/regrow doesn’t feel very impactful after unlocking autoshear - 2.0s vs 1.5s across 50+ sheep is subtle. is this mostly a gold sink?

  • would have liked an option to hide maxed upgrade rows to keep things visible without scrolling.

  • another upgrade potential (to make even more of an idler rather than a node-buster) is to have your autoshear slowly meadner. while the radius gets big, you still end up with bunched up sheep in the corners. their moving randomly helps, but still requires active mouse control for peak shearing.

nice work!
